ADHD assessments for children and adults near Luton
ADHD shows up differently at different ages, in the classroom, in friendships and family life, at university or at work, and in emotional regulation and self-esteem. A thorough assessment explains what is really going on and what helps.
- Children and young people up to the age of 18.
- Adults of all ages, including those seeking answers later in life.
- Women and girls, in whom ADHD is frequently under-recognised.
Diagnosis and recommendations, what we do and don’t do
We want you to choose the right service, so we’re clear about this up front. Bloom Clinical is an assessment and diagnostic service. We provide a thorough assessment, a formal diagnostic outcome where appropriate, and a detailed report. If medication is likely to help, we will say so in our recommendations.
We do not prescribe ADHD medication, carry out medication titration, or provide ongoing medication management or “shared care” arrangements with your GP. To pursue medication, you would take our report to your GP or to a prescribing service. We can provide details of reputable private prescribing services on request.
This makes us a strong fit if you want clear, expert answers and practical, non-medication support, sensory, occupational, educational and workplace strategies, or a robust diagnosis you can then act on. If your main priority is starting medication quickly under one roof, a clinic that offers prescribing and shared care may suit you better, and we’re happy to say so.
The Bloom assessment process, step by step
- Free 15-minute consultation. We discuss your concerns and confirm the right assessment.
- Screening & history. Secure questionnaires and background gathered beforehand.
- Initial clinical interview. A thorough clinical interview, online or at our St Albans or Milton Keynes clinic. All children’s assessments must be done in person.
- Diagnostic assessment and observation. Using validated, gold-standard tools. These include the QB Test and Conners 4 (for face-to-face assessments) in our St Albans or Milton Keynes clinic, or online for adults if preferred.
- Multidisciplinary review. The team reviews all evidence together.
- Report & recommendations. A clear written report with the outcome and tailored next steps.
Most assessments are completed within 8 weeks from your initial consultation.
What you receive
A detailed, readable report covering the outcome and the reasoning, strengths and areas of need, and practical recommendations for home, education and work, including whether medication may be worth discussing with a prescriber. The report is written to NICE-recommended standards and is suitable to share with your GP, school or employer.

FAQs
Do I need a GP referral?
No, you can refer yourself directly. Just book a free consultation to get started.
Can the assessment be done online?
For adults, much of the process can be completed online, with the option of an in-person appointment at our St Albans or Milton Keynes clinics near Luton. All children’s assessments must be carried out in person.
How long will I wait?
Assessments are typically completed within 8 weeks of your initial consultation.
Do you prescribe ADHD medication?
No. We assess and diagnose, and our report will set out whether medication may be clinically appropriate, but we do not prescribe, titrate or manage medication. You can take our report to your GP or a prescribing service to discuss treatment.
Will my GP accept the diagnosis and prescribe?
Our assessments follow NICE-recommended standards, and our reports are written to be shared with your GP. However, a GP is not obliged to prescribe or enter a “shared care” arrangement on the basis of a private report; that decision rests with them. We’d encourage you to check your GP practice’s position before booking if medication is your goal.
I want medication quickly. Are you the right service?
If starting and managing medication under one roof is your priority, a clinic offering prescribing and shared care may suit you better. We’re a strong fit if you want a clear, rigorous diagnosis and practical non-medication support, or a diagnosis you can then act on.
From what age can you assess a child?
We can assess some children from as young as 6 up to the age of 18.
What age do adult assessments begin?
You will be assessed as an adult from the age of 18.
Can you assess for ADHD and autism together?
Yes. The two often co-occur. Our combined assessment evaluates both in one coordinated pathway and a single report.
