ADHD can affect children in various ways, influencing classroom learning, friendship development, family dynamics, and emotional wellbeing. Many families seek answers when noticing their child struggling with sitting still during lessons, following multi-step instructions, waiting their turn, or managing big emotions. Some children might excel at activities they enjoy but find structured tasks challenging. Our child-centred evaluations provide the understanding needed to support your child’s unique developmental journey.
An ADHD assessment goes beyond simply confirming a diagnosis. It offers valuable insights into how your child’s brain works differently, identifying both strengths to celebrate and challenges that require support. Understanding these patterns can unlock access to appropriate classroom adaptations, learning strategies, and parenting approaches that make a significant difference in helping your child thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Sensory processing is a key focus in our evaluations, conducted by certified sensory integration practitioners. This helps identify sensory preferences and challenges, with child-friendly strategies provided to enhance classroom comfort, playground interactions, and family routines.
For children and parents alike, an assessment brings clarity and direction, offering explanations for puzzling behaviours and empowering families to advocate effectively for their child’s needs.
Our ADHD assessments are designed specifically for children (6-18), providing professional insights with warmth, compassion, and a deep understanding of child development.
A Children’s ADHD Assessment consists of the following stages:
All of our assessments include a full overview of ADHD including sensory processing needs, conducted by highly specialist certified sensory integration practitioners for a comprehensive assessment and holistic evaluation of strengths and challenges.
The ADHD assessment process at Bloom Clinical begins with a detailed parent consultation to understand your concerns and gather a comprehensive developmental history.
For children, we collect information from multiple sources including parents/carers, the child themselves through age-appropriate activities, and with permission, their school setting.
Our assessments utilise evidence-based, child-friendly tools and techniques to ensure a reliable and thorough diagnosis. The process typically includes:
Our multidisciplinary team specialises in child development and creates a welcoming, engaging environment for your child. We understand that parents often feel worried about the assessment process, and our goal is to make the experience positive and insightful for the entire family.
The first step of our assessment process is to complete some screening information so that we can find out more about you and determine together if an assessment is the right next step. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask more about our assessments and let us know of any needs or preferences you may have. This can be done by telephone or via a referral form.
Completion of provided Adult ADHD Self Report Scale questionnaire (ASRS), The Conners-4, the Conners 4 is a modern version of the Conners Rating Scales, which were originally developed by Dr. C. Keith Conners. These scales are used to help diagnose ADHD and evaluate its severity. The Conners 4 is specifically designed to be more relevant and accurate for both children and adults. The Sensory Processing Measure assessment tool will be sent via online link for completion (if there are difficulties with this, a member of the team can call to go through the assessment and answers) as well as the interoception awareness questionnaire for completion.
We will talk with you online to explore your experiences regarding attention, concentration, hyperactivity, executive functioning, relationships and organising and planning.
For face-to-face assessments, we will use the QB Test. The QB Test is a digital neuropsychological assessment that uses a combination of visual and auditory tasks to measure key behavioural characteristics that are often linked to ADHD. It’s often used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools, such as the Conners 4, clinical interviews, and self-report questionnaires. If preferred, the QB Test can be arranged to be conducted online.
Once all the assessments tools are complete, an MDT meeting will be held to review all the information gathered and analyse the results collectively. The information will be considered alongside the DSM-V diagnostic criteria to ensure a clinically robust diagnosis process.
You will receive a full, in-depth, clinically robust evaluation report. It will be important to take some time read, digest and carefully consider recommendations, at your own pace.
