Private Adult Autism Assessments

The Purpose of an Autism Assessment

An Autism assessment goes beyond confirming a diagnosis. It provides a detailed understanding of how Autism impacts an individual’s daily life, strengths, and areas requiring support.

This knowledge can help inform strategies to foster growth, improve communication, and manage sensory or behavioural challenges that the individual might be experiencing.

It can also be an enlightening and validating experience to find a deep inner understanding of the individual’s identity.

All of our assessments include a full overview of Autism, including sensory processing needs, conducted by highly specialist certified sensory integration practitioners.

For adults seeking an assessment a bit later in life, it may offer validation and insight, helping to navigate relationships, work environments, and self-care.

The assessment process at Bloom Clinical is built around your unique needs, delivering professional insights with care and respect.

What to Expect During the Assessment

The assessment process begins with a thorough consultation to explore your concerns and gather a detailed developmental history.

For adults, the process focuses on understanding personal experiences and developmental patterns from childhood through to the present.

Assessments at Bloom Clinical utilise gold-standard diagnostic tools and evidence-based approaches, ensuring accuracy and reliability. The assessment includes structured interviews, observational tasks, and, where appropriate, questionnaires completed by individuals, family members, or external settings.

Each step is designed to create a comprehensive understanding of the individual’s strengths and areas of need. Our multidisciplinary team combines clinical expertise with a warm and approachable manner. We understand that the assessment process can feel daunting, and our goal is to make the experience as comfortable and supportive as possible.

The Benefits of an Autism Assessment

An Autism assessment opens the door to tailored support and intervention. With a formal diagnosis, individuals and families can access specialist resources, educational adjustments, and therapeutic interventions that are designed to meet specific needs. For children, this might include additional support within the classroom, strategies to enhance communication, or therapies to address sensory sensitivities.

For adults, a diagnosis can bring long-awaited understanding, validating experiences that may have been misunderstood in the past. It can also provide access to workplace accommodations, mental health support, and strategies to improve day-to-day functioning.

Receiving an Autism diagnosis is not about labelling – it is about understanding. At Bloom Clinical, we focus on empowering individuals to embrace their strengths and access the right support to enhance their quality of life.

More Information

1. Screening Information

The first step of our assessment process is to complete some screening information so that we can find out more about you and determine together if an assessment is the right next step. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask more about our assessments and let us know of any needs or preferences you may have. This can be done by telephone or via a referral form.

We will ask you to complete Questionnaires that screen for autism and highlight your skills. These include the Autism Qoutient (AQ), Empathy Qoutient (EQ), Camoflauging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q) and a strengths and difficultly questionnaire. If you agree, a Developmental Questionnaire will also be sent to an informant (e.g., a parent, sibling or spouse). These can easily be completed online or, if you prefer, via Word document to be forwarded. The Sensory Processing Measure assessment tool will be sent via online link for completion (if there are difficulties with this, a member of the team can call to go through the assessment and answers) as well as the interoception awareness questionnaire for completions.

We will talk with you online to explore your experiences regarding communication styles, friendships, relationships, school, employment, emotions, behaviours, and sensory needs. An Important part is also discussing your strengths, skills, preferences and passions.

For face-to-face assessments, we will use the (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) ADOS-2, which is a mixture of talking and task-based activities. This can be completed face-to-face.  If you prefer to have an Online observation, we can also arrange this.

Once all the assessments tools are complete, an MDT meeting will be held to review all the information gathered and analyse the results collectively. The information will be considered alongside the DSM-V diagnostic criteria to ensure a clinically robust diagnosis process.

You will receive a full, in-depth, clinically robust evaluation report. It will be important to take some time read, digest and carefully consider recommendations, at your own pace.
